Background
Enthusiasts of the classic Porsche 930 Turbo aim to tune their cars with style, preserving the original aesthetics that define this iconic sports car. The intercooler, a highly visible component in the engine bay, and sadly the appearance has often been a point of compromise for most aftermarket units. Many aftermarket options with their boxy looking sheet metal tanks detract from the car's elegance.
Our solution
When designing our intercooler for the Porsche 930 Turbo, do88 aimed to retain the classic 80s appearance while significantly improving the performance. Our intercooler promises a substantial increase in cooling efficiency and a reduction in pressure drop, outperforming both the original and most aftermarket alternatives. We chose a Bar & Plate core known for its exceptional performance. The 90mm thick core with its densely packed fins ensures effective heat transfer and reduction in pressure drop.
To ensure compatibility with both T26 (OE) and T27 (upgrade) turbos, we’ve included two silicone hoses, replacing the original aluminum charge pipe between the turbo and intercooler inlet.
The 930 Turbo's large, heavy and slow diverter valve (blow off) system is positioned between the intercooler and throttle body, and its wearable components often cause common drivability issues and sluggish engine response. To address this, we designed a "Long-Neck" intercooler that removes the OE diverter valve. A Long-Neck intercooler design connects the intercooler outlet directly to the throttle body. This is a more efficient design, also used in the 930-S and 964 Turbo models. In our kit we replace the bulky diverter valve with a modern GFB diverter valve for better reliability and performance.
Our intercooler is also designed to fit together with the original AC condenser mounted in the deck lid, so no AC removal is required.
This intercooler is an ideal choice for high-power builds, meticulously designed to be mounted without modifying your car. All hardware, such as brackets, screws, and hoses, is included in this kit.
Installation
Our intercooler is designed for a direct fit in all Porsche 930 3,3 Turbos, making installation straightforward. Given the hand-built nature of these cars, minor adjustments may in some cases be necessary to achieve the perfect fit. However, these adjustments are minimal, ensuring that owners can upgrade their cooling system without compromising the car's classic appearance or the integrity of the installation process.
